Lisa Henry has been an integral part of the Alaskan skating community for over thirty years. Lisa has been a member of the Alaska Association of Figure Skaters since 1992 and has served on the AAFS Board of Directors for multiple terms. Lisa is well renowned around Alaska and the Pacific Northwest for her veteran experience and as a successful coach in the sport. She coaches both private and group lessons for USFS Learn To Skate USA and ISI. Her skaters have competed locally and outside of Alaska, including at the USFS Regional and Sectional Championships, as well as at the ISI Worlds Team Championships. Additionally, she has coached several skaters who have successfully achieved Gold Level test status in Moves in the Field and Freestyle. One student she coached and mentored for many years is currently traveling the world as Anna in Disney’s “Frozen On Ice” production.
Lisa is well known for her power and edges classes and off ice conditioning. She coaches all aspects of skating: Moves in the Field, jump and spin technique, ice dance, as well as her on ice and off ice conditioning classes. She welcomes skaters interested in competitive skating as well as those who are interested in a recreational experience. Lisa has a proactive approach to her continuous development as a coach and takes this responsibility very seriously. She travels to the Lower 48 annually to work with her mentors, Alena and Alexander Lunin, to listen and learn from her mentors’ experiences, advance her knowledge in jump and spin technique and choreography, and stay current in this ever-changing sport.
To say Lisa is passionate about figure skating is an understatement. She loves working with children of all ages, and formerly worked for the Anchorage School District in Special Education for fourteen years. She loves to travel (especially for skating events!), experience the outdoors, and spend time with her family, including her three children. Her daughter, Sarah Warrington (Henry), was a successful competitive figure skater, competed on the National and International circuit, and has recently served on the AAFS Board of Directors.
Lisa strives to pass on her love and passion for skating to her students and provide a positive and meaningful experience to skaters of all levels. In addition to helping her students reach their utmost potential, her mission is to help all the athletes she works with feel successful and believe they can go beyond their expectations.
